ANATOMY OF DEPRESSION
All humans have the potential to become depressed, same as having the emotions of falling in love, anxious or anger. When dated back about 2400 years ago, depression was first named as a diagnosis by the famous ancient Greek doctor Hippocrates, who called it 'melancholia'. Nowadays depression is serious yet a common illness. There may be over 350 million of people who diagnosed with it. The word depress comes from Latin 'deprimere', meaning to 'press down'. The term was first use in seventeenth century to describe a mood state. If a person suffers from depression, it is more than just intense sadness that last over a period of time. In fact, depression also affects their perspective on things, their behaviours, their thinking, their pleasure or interest in life and many more (Paul, 2007, p. 3&4).
